The Orange County Science and Engineering Fair (OCSEF) is an annual event organized to encourage the youth of Orange County to learn about science and to consider a career in science or engineering. The OCSEF is open to 6th - 12th grade students attending public or private schools in Orange County. For the 2006 OCSEF held in April, the Section sponsored two Special Awards, 'Excellence in Engineering Innovation', in both the Junior and Senior Divisions. Sohrab Mirza, Section Director and Patty Watanabe, Section Delegate volunteered to judge the entrants and select the Division winners. Brook Jeang was Junior Division winner and Rebecca Suzuki was Senior Division winner. In addition to Certificates, the Junior Division recipient received a cash prize of $50.00 and the Senior Division recipient received a cash prize of $100.00 Brook's project was entitled, "In Bridges We Truss''. The experiment was conducted to determine which type of truss design was able to carry more loads, Warren Truss or Pratt Truss. Rebecca's project title was, “Effect of Liquid dampers in Building Stability During an Earthquake". The model buildings varied in height from 1 to 6 story’s. The first picture is of Patty Watanabe and an unidentified Junior Division entrant that was interviewed about his project. The second photo is of our Junior Division winner's, Brook Jeang, project exhibit. The third photo is of our Senior Division winner, Rebecca Suzuki, and Sohrab. Would suggest just showing this picture and the one with the exhibit of the junior winner's exhibit and not the first photo of the unknown boy since he was not one of our winners.
